TQL is the Walmart of truck brokerage industry. They strive for market domination based on low prices rather than quality despite what name says. CHR hires college grads and gives a salary. TQL hires whoever comes in the door than pays mostly by comission. So, attitude is combo of ignorance and stressful job. If they get desperate enough to cover a load at better than market rate, watch contract details like a hawk or you'll get burned.

That's not true. First, most O/O are lease operators, not really independent nor sufficiently capitalized to be called "owners". Most of these guys haul around someone else's trailer, so they are dependent on a company dispatcher. Second, most freight is moved by dedicated contract. Loadboard spot market O/O take advantage of is elastic and leftovers from dedicated contracts. Often, brokers dispatch independent O/O onto a loose load in dedicated truck at higher rate and better terms that those lease O/O regularly servicing same dedicated routs.

I like TQL. Not because they have great rates (they're average). I enjoy the ease of their system, it's geared to be effecient. If you're complaining about the lowest of their rates find another broker. Working with TQL will help you sharpen your negotiation skills, just be sure you consider EVERY detail of the load and stick to your guns. If they need the freight moved they'll pay whatever you want.

Ha! I'm an owner op.... but rather than get frustrated at the youngsters working at TQL I use my experience in this industry to my advantage... and if the rate isn't right I don't pull it.

No offense but you sound like a youngster if you take the RISK in moving their freight

Funny I click on the post, it's dated 2013 and it's 2017 now... but TQL has the same reputation today!

One rule of thumb I have with TQL, I never book a load that picks up further away than I'm willing to get burned over. So for me, that's about 50 miles give or take. These guys really have such a reputation of selling loads out from right underneath a carrier, why would I dead head more than a couple miles for them.

While I did not really have problems with TQL (just little hiccups), they do bother me with uneccecery calls. Let's say I have a truck posted on DAT from WI to Z1, which is Northeast, but they call and offer some random stuff to Florida, TX or New Mexico. Last time I almost blew up at the guy for wasting my time.
No other broker does this, only TQL

No other? How about Coyote making never ordered wake up calls at 7:00 am every other day? They call without anything specific...just politely ask if they could be of any help for the day. I think, I will bark at them sooner rather than later..

I have never had a problem with them. Then again after dealing with those idiots at Landstar, my standards are kinda low...
I usually get them to pay me what I want, or I just look elsewhere.
