A few months back there was a truck that had keys sitting his steps looked like his personal keys, house, car and what ever else he had no radio and wouldn't acknowledge. anyone who pulled up next to him and tried to let him know.
    Losing keys really suck.

    Amen! Well said here.
When I asked my Mentor what should be the first piece of equipment I purchase he said, a radio. That's what I did. In my first six months it twice proved to be very beneficial in somewhat critical incidents when I needed to be informed.
    Get yourself a radio.

Best part on a CB from the day they first went on SALE is the ON /OFF switch, turn it on when you need it and turn it off if the BS is too much.

It just makes sense to me anyways, to have this extra tool of the trade. SO many years ago, drivers actually had respect for one another and helped you out. But you do get your jerks, like some idiot telling you the Cross Bronx Expressway is all messed up and take the go around. Then you get another driver telling you that first driver is full of it. Who do you really want to believe, especially when you are approaching a turn off that you can take and avoid the problems? Then I would say, that if you drive for a company that has many drivers on the road, then call out for one or two that you know, and ask him! But if you drive for a road company, what do you do then? Take your chances and go thru, or take another route? This is when if you are familiar with the area, and the AM radio stations, you turn to the one that has 24 hour road updates.

Please DO NOT get me started on the singing cowboys that think they can carry a tune.

sometimes YES, someone WILL HELP YOU. But guess what, it is still YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to get out and check! That driver helping you to back out at the truckstop, has NOTHING to lose if you bang into someone! As a driver very often you have to use the G.O.A.L. That means, Get Out And Look!

Over all, a cb radio can be what you make of it. An expensive toy to disrupt others, or an inexpensive tool to help and receive help and information. I'd rather have a cb at my ready, than to be on the road coming up on some sort of problem, and no one can warn me, or respond to me if I ask.

In the jobs that I had to slip seat, that is simple. A "pocket sized" cb radio, vice-grip pliers with an antenna mount welded on, a cigarette lighter plug adapter, and some coax, are always at the ready. A PITA at times to carry, but so is a truckers wallet, yet we all bring that, don't we?

yes get one, you will be surprised that several shippers/ receivers still use to communicate with drivers. Plus benefits of you might need help etc if the trash is too bad it has an on/off switch. Weighing at various scales too

I recommend just getting a portable hand held cb. Take it in your baggage so it doesnt get ripped off or change trucks. Use it when a receiver needs to call you for a door,or whever you want to.Fairly cheap,no wiring to mess with and you wont have to listen to the CB Rambos with their idle chatter.

I have had several occasions that having a radio has saved my bacon, Even had a CHP's give me warnings to slow down or stay in the right lane that would have resulted in a ticket had I not had a radio.

Here in Cal that alone covers the cost of any radio you would want. I have had drivers warn me I was losing a tread, this possibly saved someone else even.

Dont leave home without it. When my son was issued his own tractor I gave him a new Cobra 29, RK56, and a vice grip mounted Francis 5.5.
