I'm thinking of (buying and) reading the book Secrets the Trucking Companies Don't Want You to Know! by Yvonne Wright. Any opinions?

I should say that I have no trucking experience, and I'm looking to start a career as an OTR driver, possibly by doing a company-sponsored CDL training deal.

    Any other books you'd suggest?

    Thanks.

I've never read it but I suspect 1/2 of the read may be reasonable and the other half is here-say and not typical and probably very slanted and perhaps written mostly by a "disgruntled ex driver". Reader be advised.

Besides, there are several different types of trucking options and all have their unique problems and issues. What may apply to the typical mega dry van carrier, will not apply to most mid-size reefer operations. What applies to one big company who hires new graduates, won't apply to a small[er] company that only hires experienced drivers. So a lot depends on where the writer is coming from and what his/her experience is in reality and how objective the writer is. It may be a good read or it may be a bunch of crap and it may depend on who you ask and what they expected from the read.

A very few aspects apply to all non LTL carriers and these can be discussed in a paragraph. The rest is more to do with the particular carrier, how they hire, how they bonus, how/what they reprimand, how they pay, and what is required day-to-day from the driver.
