So keeping up appearances means something to you? I like a nice truck too but my financial decisions are more important than impressing someone at a stop light that I will never meet.
Heck my personal car cost me a whopping $500 peeling clear coat and all.
worth the coin?

You're the only one you have to keep happy. If you want it then go for it. Drive something that makes you smile and feel good about yourself.Lepton1 Thanks this.

I don't think it's all about impressing other people. Personally a lot of it for me was having a truck that I felt good about. One that I'd look back at a couple times walking in to pay for fuel. One that puts a smile on your face when you walk out from taking a shower. One that people remember seeing going down the road.
I've been getting everything in order for my tax person and last year I spent $5280 on truck washes and polishing. That doesn't count the times I washed it myself at the shop. But it made me feel good. Yes I put a lot into the appearance of the trucks I've had. When you show up to load and everything is clean and your shirts and pants are starched it says to the rancher that you have pride in what you do and he feels better knowing his cattle are in good hands.
Hauling livestock your truck is your calling card. It's the first thing they see coming into their yard. If it's clean and nice they remember you. -
I think you will have more pride in purchasing a cheaper truck and then build it to your liking.
Then you can show people the before pics and the after pics when you're finished. -
Just as long as its not parked in front of a Fleetwood mobile home....when his done with the project...Bakerman Thanks this.

If this is a truck that is something that you would build anyway it's worth a look at least. 75K is pretty steep so he should be willing to show paperwork on all of the work that has been done.
I went the other way and bought a truck that I knew needed work, unless you have alot of dedication and desire for a cool ride buying one that is already done saves time, if not money.
My next truck will be done before I put it on the road. It's too time consuming to work on it and stay productive.
Happy shopping! -
Use a search engine for craigslist like searchtempest.com and scope the area radius out that you would like to look in. You can add a keyword like c15 or 6nz to help. Personally I would be willing to drive 500 miles or more to look at the right truck if I was looking . For that kind of investment it would be wise to suck it up and do so.
