We force them to pay detention by logging everything we do. The difference today is everyone is on ELDs so the next driver or company can't afford to sit all day for free also. They basically only have one choice and to charge detention pay or drop the customer..
The driver that would sit for free and make it up by driving past the HOS on paper logs, can't do that anymore. The 14 hour limit will force then to stop. So now that driver is going to see he can't afford to sit for free.
He will go out of business trying the same old trick. When he does then the customer will still need their freight moved. You tell them now, pay detention or I'm not hauling your cheap freight. Because your in demand.
Would any of you use an ELD without being forced to?

Woreout, I have thought of that and I two think its possible. The ATA is behind it so the rates probably will. Right now I see rates increased. This may just be the bubble. Pres. is talking about jobs, jobs, jobs, and how housing market has sprung back. The housing prices are inflated if you ask me. At least were I live. Gives me that funny feeling like 2005-2008. Car Sales and Prices are up to.wore out Thanks this. -
I am seeing jobs coming back, as are many products made in Mexico, China and Europe. It will take time, but good things are happening. Happening much quicker than the Reagan Revolution. The problem is going to be finding the people to do the work. Glad to hear Trump is wanting to address welfare reform, because we are going to need it. Also the legalized pot is a very big issue, as few can pass a drug test.DoubleO7, jamespmack, Timin770 and 1 other person Thank this.

Why did you accept cheap rates? All I ever hear is drivers bragging how much money they make -
I don't accept cheap rates. And now that my competition can't haul those 700 mile over night runs it just became a whole lot easier to raise my rates even more.

to answer the original question....no, I would not put an ELD in if not forced to. I just like less government in my life if I can.

Good grief. Not everyone on E-logs operates like that. I sure don't. I've been on E-logs for at least 5 years. If I'm counting pallets I'm On Duty. If I'm not needed, I'm in the sleeper or I ask if it's OK to go for a walk, and if OK, I go for a walk Off Duty.
