You can damage them if you tow them too far too.

Hmmm, seems a bit of overkill, but can I watch?

my truck was towed not to long ago, and instead of removing the Drive shaft he just put it in neutral and left the truck running while he towed it to keep the tranny lubed.

it was only a 30 min drive.

I have never seen it done that way but considering the guy that towed my truck OWNED the towing company as well as the shop that fixed my truck i wasnt going to argue with him, truck hasnt had any issues since :biggrin_25511:

I've always removed the drive shaft but then again im not a tow truck driver lol

keeping engine running and bring 700-800rpm will be ok if your clutch is broken

hah! it is easy to shift into 1st and use starter to start and shift w/o clutch, but... bearing balls, pices of pressure plate may damage flywheel, case and crankshaft sensor ...

try that on 414 when clutch cylinder was leaking and it start to grind when you not use clutch pedal so i guess some kind of blockade when you try shift it clutch less

i have seen somewhere on new opticruise without clutch pedal emergency shift way it shift it like old opc4 (without clutch) and start with starter

Yes, but you can wear out the pump seal in a 4 wheeler auto tranny. I laugh at these RV's that tow one around with a tow bar. They are drastically cutting down on the life of that tranny. But I guess they can afford $2500.

If you ever retire in an RV, either pull a manual or get the auto/drive wheels off the ground with a tow dolly or trailer.
