We are currently leased to a company. We have two trucks. One truck is driven by our driver and we pay him. The other truck me and pops roll team in. We have been doing this for awhile now. It is coast to coast with one day home sometimes one and a quarter. We used to team but we would do 3 days home instead of one(different route)
Would it be wise to buy another new truck for me and my father to run our old route? We would put a team in the truck we are currently driving.
This route has us turned into workaholics. We run 5-6 runs and its taken a toll on us both.
The company lets carriers who have their own authority to still lease onto them. Would it be worthwhile to get our authority after buying this other new truck? We can make the trucks payments easy and weve been planning on our own authority for awhile; we dont want to loose this run.

Looking for advise, stuck in a corner..

We own the one truck, no payments, this one we have monthly payments. This one we roll in has monthly payments. To get another truck would be double the monthly payments which is affordable.. Plus maintenance accounted for as well..

So you want to hire out something you basically say is too much for you. How long do you think that will last.

i think what he is getting at is if you don't want to keep doing it yourself and hire a driver to do it how long is that driver going to want to keep running that route.

How are you going to get and keep a team to do a run you say is too much work for yourselves. I am guessing you will want to profit from it. If you don't want to keep at it now who's going to do it once you take a cut off the top.

You should join OOIDA; this organization is designed for 0/0's and small fleet owners & can give you the correct answers. Check their website.

There are teams out there that concider their truck home. They dont go home for MONTHS at a time.. Thats who we would look for. Perhaps even a husband wife team. And yes we WOULD look to make a profit on the run; isnt that why most people go into business.. To make a profit? Thats why we have one solo guy, because we are making a profit. Am i missing something?

You know how much you make on the run. If you find the right team to do it, yea it probably would be worth buying another truck. I think I'd have the new employees found before I invested in the new truck, though. Suck to buy the truck and not be able to find drivers for it.
