If you can't get on w/ in'law. And home every night not looking possible, I'd suggest looking at beverage/food distribution... They go through drivers and accept anyone with a license. Or at least around here they do. Survive that for a year or two and you'll be good.
[Edit] forgot you said 21, you may have to deal with it till 25 yrs old.. many insurance companies won't allow below.
Would like some advice from you experienced drivers - greenhorn

Hi talkingquackoutdoors and welcome to the very informative forum. That's quite the screen name you have.Anyway I would guess you finding a local job without OTR exp is remote.Where I live all the local companies requires a yr or 2 otr exp.Triplesix mentioned this and you may have already replied but I don't feel like finding out because im lazy, lol.Anyway can your girlfirends dad get you a job?You would make alot more their then hauling general freight. You may have to go over the road for training but you can switch divisions after that like regional or dedicate if that company has consistant lanes where you live.Or many of the starter companies have day drivers and home eery night.I know werner does, schneider I think, usexpress does. Are you located within like a 50 mile radius of those companies? But you will have to stay out 6 to 8 weeks for training then go from there.Sounds like you and your lady have a wonderful relationship,I think she'll understand. You are young and many companies won't hire until 23 yrs of age.But Werner I believe hires at 21.I know it sucks some of what you're reading but if trksriving is your passion then you'll have to start at the bottom and work up.We've all went thru the same thing

Get your "A" permit, you don't need to go to a $4000 school. Get your permit and start looking all around you for trucks every where. Don't sit there. Don't call. GO THERE. Anywhere you see a truck bang on his door. 2 tips.....Use all the room you got, as in making turns, get used to going way more than you need. That will make you not crash into poles, cars and other trucks. #2 Walk around your truck every time you get in or out. You never know what happened when you went to get a burger. One other thing: THEY ALL LIE.
HotH2o Thanks this.
