I'm not saying you shouldn't do it. Some people have no choice, and there's little else where a 72 year old man can get a job, except MacDonalds. Walmart doesn't need any more greeters, I checked. For me, after 35 years, I couldn't wait to get out, and I live in a govt. assisted apt. for retired, so I get by, but heaven forbid, in an emergency, you need the cash, it may the only option for some. Easiest job in trucking, is either tanker or dump. Anything else may require a lot of unloading. Not sure you can do that. Good luck.
MACK E-6 and luv2fly352 Thank this. -

I greatly appreciate your reply and personal honesty as well as everyone else' here. I've been semi retired since 2002 and fully retired since 2005.My retirement income is adequate but doesn't leave much room for additional upcoming expenses like some needed home renovations. All my family's gone,my wife passed away and the last of our rescue dogs passed on over a year ago so it's just me.Just thought if i might something to suit me,i'd be willing to give it a try.Maybe i'm just an old optimist.Anyway, thanks for responding and hope you all have a safe,Happy Thanksgiving! God Bless!

Try a temp service. That way, you can drive when you want to and be home too.

Mmm, hmm. Next thing he knows, he'll be on his way to Wilkes-Barre, PA, with a load of diapers ( on the floor) and call from there. A load from NYC has to get to Phoenix yesterday, and you're the only one that can do it,,,been there,,Oxbow and luv2fly352 Thank this.

Hey..I'm getting up there myself and due to poor personal planning they will be prying my cold dead fingers off the steering wheel when I finally croak.
luv2fly352 Thanks this. -

Not sure where you live. But try your local county or city. My neighbor retired, got bored. But didn’t really want to go back OTR. The county hired him on an as needed basis. All day work, never a night drive. He may work a couple of days one week, then not be needed the next.
He enjoyed it.Oxbow Thanks this. -

I’m sure you know but just in case . Medical Card needs to be on file with state. They call it self certification usually through dmv. I had a friend who drove till he was 84.The Guy was amazing. We had heard he was in a comma and thought he was gone. One day I got a call “Guess who I saw at the Truckstop?”He came out of a 3 mo comma and was back Driving. The Guy had the first open heart surgery at UM when he was 27 to fix a hole, also type 2 diabetes. I miss working with him we all called him Grampa. The Company He was leased to wouldn’t insure him after 84 birthday otherwise he still wanted to drive.Hope you find a good place that will work with you. I hear Working is much better when it an option instead of necessity.
