Flew up to Minneapolis to start a new job with a small outfit Friday. They put me in a 2007 T600 with 1.2 million on it. Supposedly just for a week while they get another similarly 2007 truck ready for me. An hour into day 3, I'm on the side of the road with probably either a blown turbo or a blown engine. I'm 150 miles from home in Central Florida. The list of things inside this truck that don't work is a mile long. When the wrecker gets me towed to a shop and I'm sure they'll say days to repair, I'll likely call my wife and tell her to come get me. I'm not a mechanic and I'd think they need to hire mechanic background drivers if their business model is to run a preemmission fleet. Reefer load scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Can't deliver with a broken truck. Abandonment, yes or no?

    Yes.

    DONT DO IT.

Your DAC will be written up and you wil not drive again for years.

In fact as the Agent of your company entrusted with a 18 wheeler and cargo costing god knows how much, STAY with your truck until relieved of duty. Then quit if you must. But think about this carefully. Most everyone demands you return the truck to the yard. Some prosecute you for this rash action including having the Law go after you.

I'll type more but I gotta do a little quick research

Who cares if a truck has million and change on it? Even if it had 10 million miles it is your duty to be satisfied with a pretrip that everything in, attached to, on, bolted to, wired on, welded to build part of, coded in and so on is in good working order before you drive it. IF you felt threatened by a POS truck that will kill you leaving the yard why in the world did you give in and drive it? You don't have work to do until they give you a strong truck with everything that works.

Too quiet for my taste. What are you fixing to do? If anything? One of those things I hope you are talking to a shop manager to see about getting those items fixed on the truck of which there must be a small mountain of.

Road service says it's a double barreled blown turbo. Waiting on wrecker now.

See what the company plans to do with the load. See what the repairs are going to be. Maybe a rental truck to deliver load is in the plans in which you will be needed to drive the rental. Document everything you do and everything said to you. You are under a load which equals abandonment.

What it actually sounds like is you are having second thoughts about this company.

Your company will probably get a rental for you. They sure can't afford to buy that refrigerated load.

This is the company mechanic's truck. He's fully aware of the condition of the truck. I should have just flew back.

I was told when inquiring about the job that they run gliders. When I got to Minnesota they said they don't do gliders, just preemmission.

I'll always do what's right. The point of the thread is to determine what right is. I appreciate the responses.

Stay with the truck. If it's only the turbo, it'll be fixed pretty quick. And, hey, stuff happens. Especially on a 1.2 million mile truck.

The company I'm with runs all pre emission trucks. Most are north of a million miles, too. Yes, we have breakdowns, and no, they may not have the creature comforts of the new trucks. But, they're dependable, and we make great money driving it.

I'd say give them a half a chance. Certainly more than one trip....
