I am thinking about selling my 2006 4wd expedition limited though.
My father bought it new and it’s got about 120k on it.
If it’s gone up a lot in value it might be for sale . -

12 valve owner here.
If you buy a 24 valve:
1. make sure it's not a 53 block;
2. Replace the stock lift pump with a FASS or similar because the stock units are known to get weak and starve the VP44 (injection pump) causing it to burn out;
3. Tab the "killer dowel pin" under the timing cover;
4. If it's an automatic, have a transmission shop go through it with a fine-tooth comb (if it's a 47re you might as well replace it with a built unit, especially if you're planning on doing hotshot or a lot of towing); if it's a 5 speed (NV4500) have the transmission shop ensure that the 5th gear retaining nut is in place and won't back off.
6. The ball joints will probably need to be replaced. The dash is most likely cracked.
Also, I would not pay $15,000 for a 24 valve. For a well-kept 12 valve, yes, but not for any 24 valve.Caterpillar Cowboy and God prefers Diesels Thank this.
