I've been looking at A LOT of new trucks online.
Peterbilts, Kenworths, Freightliners, Western Stars, Volvos, everything.
I still find myself drooling over the extended cab version of the International "8600" Transtar.
There's TONS of threads on this forum (I'm sure on other forums too) saying how bad the MaxxForce engine is. They keep trying to make their advanced EGR system work on the drawing board, but other problems always come up once the engine hits the real world.
My biggest fear with the MaxxForce is the breakdown. Other threads mention weeks and months spent in the shop with typical MaxxForce issues.
Which brings me to the title of this thread...
I could only imagine the anger felt by truck owners when their truck spends weeks and months in the shop (even under warranty) and, like clockwork, the monthly bill for the truck payment shows up in the mail...
Lets say International/Navistar came up with a "Breakdown clause" in the financing contract?
Something that basically said, (If your new MaxxForce equipped International truck spends more than 72 hours in a shop -even under warranty- , that months payment may be deffered until the next month without any additional fees, interest, or penalties.)
Would you then consider International as an option for your next new truck purchase?
Would you buy a truck with a MaxxForce engine if.....?

Nope. Hard to keep your reputation sound when you can't be reliable.
-
no way, if i dont have confidence in the reliability of what I pay the note on, why would i want it? truck not moving=no money. while your point of not paying the monthly note has merit, all the other bills still come in every month, taxes, permits, ins, etc. just my .02 worth from a simple minded country boy.

Very good point. I doubt Navistar would say anything like "We'll pay your mortgage, electric bill, and for your kids braces if your truck breaks down."
But letting the owner skip a payment that month would be a nice jesture and show they really stand behind their product instead of using the customers as a real-world test dummy for their products... -
No, not me either. Are you wishing out loud or do you have a contract that really says that?
If that's really on the table then hell no ! They are telling you it's been such a problem that it's costing them big sales and their trying to save it.

Not me, but i have met people that love them

Please don't turn this into an International bashing thread.
This is a thread for people who actually like International trucks but can't seem to get over the MaxxForce poblems.
If you're a Die Hard Peterbilt guy, I don't ever see you considering an International regardless of engine issues. -
The only reason those Maxxforce-Fiasco owners are spending so much time fixing that junk is that they were plainly incompetent when they were even considering buying it. There is just plenty people who have no clue about technology but for some reason they want to be in trucking - those are the ones who get hurt. Based on your post blackducati - you are one of them. If know already the motors are bad - why the heck you even posting this????
-
Because, I'd like to know if other people would change their mind if International ever created a "breakdown clause" something like I mentioned above.
If you knew me before making such a disrespectful post, you'd know that I'm also considering buying a 95 Freightliner Classic with a 500hp 3406E Cat with ZERO emissions equipment.
I'm no dummy, nor am I new to the trucking industry. I just never purchased my own truck, yet, and I'm looking at all my options..... as any intellegent person does before making such a huge important purchase. -
Did you know that Maxxforce is recirculating up to 3 times MORE exhaust gases than latest ISX? Why you want to get hurt? Because you like some stupid sleeper? I really don't want to sound rude this time but you got it wrong.
