    HOW about safety?

Asking them the question if it is all right for him to log into your logs or as you put it "Well he also keeps trying to get me to drive on his line 5 to the #### truck stop and to the terminal, so he doesn't have to leave his personal vehicle somewhere else. And when I refuse, he then decides I should solo on my line 3 to the truck stop."

I will give you a couple more pieces of advice, if you do decide to talk to safety, act as if you are dumb and want to know the right answer, don't accuse anyone of anything, especially bringing up dac reports, that's stupid in itself.

IF they have an issue with this and they want you to tell him about it, then tell them to communicate it to the driver because you don't feel comfortable talking to him at this point. Stress you would like to be reassigned to someone else, asking them what to do because if he is not doing this right - important part - you want to learn it RIGHT so you don't screw up for the company or with the DOT.

The other thing that I am going to tell you is this, so you understand it because many of you drivers don't get this no matter what.

YOU are the one in charge of that TRUCK when you are in the driver's seat, not the guy who is telling what to do or the company - YOU.

YOUR CDL is your license to operate that vehicle, the company knows this and when they put you in that driver's seat, it is not just your right to control and log the way YOU see it should be done but your responsibility to run it legally as you see fit.

The only one outside of that who can tell you what to do is a state or local cop like if they want you to drive somewhere or that you need to be inspected. NO ONE ELSE.

They're the same people that came up with the idea of "safe rooms" and "micro-aggression" phone apps. Now they want driver break rooms to furnish free 'Play-Doh" and "therapy puppies" for drivers that are having problems with their driver mentors.
The driver development cordinators say it worked for them in college.

Well, I think that you have narrow vision. Sure large carriers take loads. But they also help stabilize the market. They train new drivers, and they provide vital infrastructure where small carriers just don't have the scope to cope with ginormous accounts.
Many people make careers at large carriers, some even excel at their jobs. Many times it is a persona at the top that makes a large meg carrier do stupid ####, because they feel thats what they want...thats the way MY company is going to do things and to hell with whoever gets in the way.

My experience with 3 large carriers, May, Swift and Schneider National has been varied.
May sucked, but that was in 1998... I hear they've gotten a little better but even after all this time doesn't direct deposit...

Swift, credited me with a lot of experience and put me on an easy peasy Walmart account where I ran empty half the time and made ok money... management was very good and easy to deal with.

    Schneider National Choice Program
Staff and infrastructure was great (2014), dealings with staff was great... intake was easy. They let me do my own thing and tried to support me however possible
Now we need a carrier which will put my wife in the truck with me from day 1.... Swift has the freight, is paying an excellent rate to me per mile and benefits out the ying yang. Newer trucks including T680's. They are understaffed do to the Knight Merger, but I hear in the office during this weeks orientation that Knight (who only had 4k PAID FOR tractors) is actually the controlling party and putting the thumb screws to Swift to lean things up and fly right. The core good staff that I've met and dealt with are basically still there, know their jobs better. AND SWIFT HAS MORE FREIGHT THAN ANYONE. Which means I run till I drop if I want to.
I've been driving since 1997, have hauled dry van, chip truck, boats, fuel tankers (gas), live seafood down hwy 101 for 3 years 3 trips a week southern Oregon to Oakland, Ca... and I can attest that I actually know what the #### I'm doing and can SEE that the benefits of working for a meg carrier is there, depending on the carrier, depending on the staff you happen to be dealing with.
Not all people who work for these companies are idiots, some actually have very good reasons for doing what they are doing.
That being said, I am aware that being an owner Op with the right kind of circumstances pays far better...but not everyone has their own paid for W900.

I'm convinced that anyone with over two years exp., who is working at a mega is just an incompetent douche.[/QUOTE]
