Hello Future Driver Compadres!
My name is Tim, an aspiring driver whose been diligently researching the driving industry to get a idea of the in's and out's, but understand that only through experience will i develop the necessarry knowledge to actually do well. Im currently in a work-release program in Florida and in a 103 days will be looking to move forward in life with driving as hopefully a means to support myself and my family. Im really at ground zero in terms of starting out, and as of yesterday (friday 10/23/15) i have attained my class A permit with two endorsements (NT)= doubles and triples and tankers. I will work on my hazmat to become more marketable in hopes that my background wont prevent the issuance of the endorsement. Through my incarceration i learned that N. Dakota and surrounding area drivers salraies were through the roof but as a result to the drop in crude, income has lowered however, not entirely and wisest of the wise still make a really great living. As a beginner i will not expect a 6figure salary but still would like to position myself on track to do so within a reasonable time frame. So, some assistance would be wonderous starting out. What kind of assistance? While Financial is most expedient you can give a $1,000,000 to the uninformed and they'll be broke in 6months and is why im open to true knowledge. I read thread after thread day in day out and have been finding myself putting two and two together. To start off though, tangible support goes a ways as im sure some of you would agree. Peoples situations are different and so they can do diffrent things. He might be able to only call his best buddy at Make Money Inc and have a job lined up for me tomorrow and because she did so well over her career doesnt mind sponsoring a truck and trailer for an advantageous go-getter. So to be clear( not i want to) I WIll drive a truck and trailer one day soon and could utilise anyones resources to support the begining phase of getting started. My pops upstairs said ask and you shall receive and i have never been really good at that...Always been self sufficient and i was the one who people came to for support but as you may see the tables have turned.
Random Questions...
Do i want to stay in Florida and
Make really good money? Yes
But would i tavel anywhere for a great start? Yes
Uh would you go to Alaska?
Yes, not that i want to but to build a nest egg i would.
What kind of driving do u want to do? I want to start in what makes the money and eventually have a few trucks operating.
Are you brave enough to do ice driving? Yes, and with enough experience i would give a season a try.
When will I be ready to start?
I will be finished with the work-release program in a 103 days and still need to take a driving test to actually get my license. So i either need to get with a company or have my own equpiment, as of now having my own equipment isnt really tangible so most likely ill have to use a company, so hopefully before febuary is over...
Would i team drive?

Mr. Noel, with regards to the hazmat, the nature of whatever landed you in prison may impact whether or not you get that.
Otherwise, if you're committed to this and willing to put the past behind you and move on, that is to be commended. Keep at it.mountaingote and Lonesome Thank this. -

The state will probably pay for CDL school. Have you checked on that?
You can try Swift for trucking company CDL school.
If you can swing a private CDL school it would be better. Community college CDL schools are pretty cheap.Florida Beauty Express will probably hire you if you complete private CDL school.
Are you near Miami? -

The school may require a couple of pre-hire letters; if so, that won't be a problem. The schools do this because they don't want a student to graduate and then not be hired.
Keep us posted on what career source center tells you.
