Would you like to know how much time drivers spend at locations on average?

Its funny you say that because , I am a company driver and work for a mega . Lol

But I choose to plan as much as much as possible. Just the way I am and have always been.

I like to have a plan for everything. .. I know its kinda weird...:biggrin_2558:

Knowing true detention time statistics would be cool. Would want averages and also to see a distribution of detention times. Now for the reality.

You find out from experience and other drivers who the bad shippers and receivers are.

I have learned to not to accept loads from shippers or receivers that consistently waste my clock.

Now if the broker puts some extra on top to cover the financial side of a consistently messed up pu or drop we can talk.

Umm setting yourself up to have a usefull clock when empty or once loaded is a good business practice.

A good dispatcher will find out how many hours you can/will run when empty so they can pre-plan you to benefit you and the company.

Id pay for such a service. Granted they had all the places I was looking up, otherwise, free subscription with user feedback to generate all data, and ad sponsors for server cost and website upkeep.

    cool idea

Not really helpful in the flatbed world. Unless you're going to a big box DC or a good ol' boy steel mill, it gets off faster than you can roll up your tarps and put the chains away 99% of the time.

I seen flat bedders with loads of onions or potatoes, not looking too happy at some places when I hauled reefer. Produce usually suck all around though.

You can make these bad players pay. Just charge a way over the top rate. If it's coming from a crappy place that I know wastes time, and someone has called me asking if I was interested in hauling it, their jaw normally hits the floor when I tell them a rate. And so on the slightest of chances they might be in a bind.. ..they have made so much money off the cheap haulers that sometimes they might just pay you over the top to stay in good graces on the account. You never know until you ask don't be shy.

And obviously 99 times out of 100 you will never book that load, but you just never know until you stand your ground. And you don't need the other 99 loads anyways, just the 1, here and there.... And while everyone at the docks is grumbling and grousing about such a lousy load (LOL!) you're smiling to yourself. Just take whatever insult they're offering for detention. It'll make it much easier to get updated confirm, etc, etc. Doesn't matter because you made it on the linehaul, anything more is bonus.... That's how I do it when they call asking me. If I call asking about someone's load and they give me all the clues that it's a time waster then generally it's a no-go you just know it's not gonna be that load.

Some of you say that this idea makes sense. Would you be willing to contribute to such service with your own experience?

It really would be cool and you could be on to something.

Here is the only proble. , say one guy has a full load of one product. Hos load/unload time will be shorter then say someone who has a load ( lets say to deliver ) that has multiple product lines . In terms will take the second person considerably longer due to case break down .

It really would be a good thing , but outcomes will vary from one load to the other .

    This is so true.

I have picked up from one customer twice; both loads had the same 2 drops in Los Angeles @ food service places.

One load was 10 skids of one product to each drop. No problem a couple of hours @ each drop.

Second was also 10 or so skids to each customer. Had to reschedule second drop to the following day. First customer broke out 10 skids to 60 or so skids. Took 6 hours for first drop. Second drop was close to the same situation. Burnt me for a day's pay. I no longer take freight from that customer to Cali.
