Some of those “Hitchhiker's are sometimes just Swift or Schneider drivers on vacation. Cut them some slack.
Would you pick up a hitchhiker on your way?

Oxbow Thanks this. -
I gave a driver a ride over I10 from Louisiana to Florida. He had about 1/2 a truck worth of duffles and backpack so I figured he was...um . . Transitioning from 1 truck to maybe another truck? Maybe another company? Another career field? I drove for a mega, so screw their insurance rates lol. No cameras and no narcs so no problem. Dog liked him enough. He didn't really talk much. Seemed a little stressed out but not a weirdo. Bought me a mini vanilla ice cream cone at the truck stop I left him at.
Statistics show that we are most risk from people who are close friends or family, and for females being murdered more often ex mates than hitchhikers.feldsforever and Pamela1990 Thank this. -

I used to all the time as well as hitchhike myself just for kicks.. I would also help people broke down on the side of the road.
But now a days. I'm carrying a dark cloud. And if I'm gonna end up in a gutter its going to be over something more than just trying to be helpful.
Prime example. In new hampshire in 06. Driving thru my old town down rt 11. This woman is Cleary drunk and hitch hiking. I pull over pick her up. Let her call her whoever was trying to find her. I get about 2 miles into farmtown bringing her to her dad's. I get pulled over. The sr22 had been being sent to north Dakota not nh. So being back in the state for the first time in 10 years. I spent two days in clink.
Pick up a dude in ma. Asked where'd you wanna go. He said anywhere but here. I brought him with us to Florida. He walked away from a mental home in vt..
I've prolly picked up 60 plus hitch hikers in my day.
But the one that shot at me ended it for every one. He was from al. Her was a trucker that just blew his transmission. I didn't mind him hanging at the house and have ing a few beers and shots. Problem was he had the ptsd. Being in the woods all liquored up set it off. The bullet is still in the tree in " won't say where, new hampshire" ex-wife said the tree was still standing when she sold.
So no. Even elisabeth Hurley can walk.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Comparing him to Trudeau, Ted seems like a good guy.Dockbumper and feldsforever Thank this. -

Pre 2005, I met a girl at The Flyin J in Indy and she told me she was trying to get out to Bakersfield because she wanted to hook up with a drummer in some rock band out there. She had nothing but the clothes on her back and a tiny purse that she hung over her shoulder.
I was worried she was going to get raped, so I told her I wasn't going to Bakersfield but I could give her a ride to Sayre Oklahoma and help her find a ride from there. She agreed, and off we went.
I didn't lay a finger on her either, not even when we were sitting in the hotel room in Vandalia Illinois I got her and she laid out her tongue ring collection on the nightstand for me to admire.
The next day we stopped at the Wamart in Sullivan Missouri and I bought her a backpack and she chose various items to put in it, including several pairs of thong underwear. The elderly female cashier just about blew her stack with me, a 40 something man with a gigantic Cheshire cat grin on my face standing there waiting to splurge on my young Miss.
Long story short: we hung out a couple days and then I passed her off to an older reefer O/O that was on his way to Bakersfield.
Mission accomplished.Last edited: Dec 31, 2021
