I'm talking about TOTAL FUEL CONSUMPTION per month not just from idling.

Bottom line is that idling is bad. Second thing is if you don't have an APU and the company says you can't idle don't work for them.

I'm not going to argue anymore. Last post on this subject. Look at the successful companies out there, they all limit idling which should be around 7.5%.

Except I don’t idle 24/7, 10 hours a night by 3-4 nights a week in the summer is 30-35 gallons of fuel, that’s less then $100 a week, and it’s a tax write off, Companies limit idling because the over educated idiot bean counters that work for them have never been inside a truck, the last inframe we did on a 5ek cat was just over 11k, no where near 20. Idling may not be the best for the engine but it is not going to blow up every year for idling over night. And you are aware an apu still burns fuel out of the tanks to run right? I can put 12k into better spots in the business then an apu that will be scrap by the time I break even on it

The Apu has more advantage then just less fuel burn.

And how you going to separate idle fuel write-off from overall fuel spending?

And you could very well lose that write-off. Just like house went bye bye.

I used to hate them until I bought a truck with one. Now I would hate to do without it.

You might not respond, but you're reading this. So just for you Im going to idle my truck every chance I get. Infact Im idling it right now as the forklift driver unloads me amd and its only 76 deg outside.

Every time you think about idling, remember me. Because chances are if my truck isnt moving, its still running, for you.
