I was making 6.50 per/hr with time & a half overtime 1975 in CC.TX. I grossed 38,000.00 that year a new Harley Wide Glide was 6,000.00 back then my new car was 4500.00

Its sad but alot make around that if they add up the hours they work (might be closer to $10an hr), not logged hours but all the hours they are doing company business.

All ya gotta do is the math....say you make .32cpm and drive 600 miles in your day you just made $192. Said 600 miles was 10 hours of driving 60 miles per hour. So at $8.00 hr the very same 600 miles grosses you $80.00. HMMMMMMM I think I'd rather have the cpm than an hourly wage that low. And how will they figure out overtime? Any time over 40 is time and a half No I think they are barking up the wrong side of the tree here.

I'm sure the company's not charging minimum wage on the freight.

What they charge on the frieght has no bearing on the original post. start at $8.00 hr top out at $13.00 hr. By just doing simple math you lose at anything less than $19.20 per hour. Granted that is just for driving. Most companies have policies in effect for detention, layover and multiple stops so the driver has a potential to make even more money than his cpm rate. At the hourly wage you can probably bet that you wont get the extra detention, layover or multiple stop incentives. They only way what they charge for the freight or what the company is paid to haul the freight is if you are on percentage. So that really doesnt come into this equation either.
You were asking for our opinion on this and were not going to make any judgements, as I see you are a student you probably wont get told this kind of info at your school, you'll have to learn it the hard way like everyone else on the road. Good luck to ya

No, I WON'T get this kind of info at school, that's why they call it truck driver training school and not trucking school.

To get the real story and make an informed decision, I do the smart thing and study these boards, there are two sides to every job, the recruiter/school is one side, then there is this forum.
