I forget the name of the town, lake something on us65. Towed to monroe LA. Get this, after talking on the pone to his supervisor we get this...that he is not a dot officer and had no knowledge of the rules regarding weights and measures for commercial vehicles, basically admitted he has no idea what he was talking about. He then goes on to say they got a call from a 'concerned citizen' saying they saw an illegal tow. Now this I can believe because while he was hooking his truck to me this guy in a pickup pulled in and took a protracted interest in what we were doing and was on the phone. he even backed up to look again. I remember being on the phone with my woman and mentioning a lookieloo. The plot thickens.

thinking about it I'm wondering if it could have been a cargo thief hoping for an easy score on an unhooked trailer. Call the police, make us split it assuming the wrecker would take my truck first and come back for the trailer. Regardless I was instructed if we had to split the truck and trailer I have to stay with the trailer until they take it.

PA is or was one of the states that doesn't allow them to pull both, I broke down there on the Turnpike when I first started driving, the tow truck split the two and we waited until another truck came for the trailer to leave.

You musta been around Lake Village, AR by the mighty Mississippi river.
If the tow split it, and your trailer was stolen, that complaintant's phone number would have been the first place they looked, as far as a suspect.
Would have been a dumb move on his part, if the case.

Hey Gravdigr where are you working at now? Last I heard you had to give up Marten because your better half had some medical issues. Hope she is better. Think it is funny what the cop did especially not knowing the rules and regs.

Tennessee used to do that because the towing companies saw dollar signs by having to use two wreckers; one for the tractor & one or the trailer. Towing companies in Tennessee write their own rules as they go along. They put canvas "Out of Order" bags over parking meters & "no parking signs", then when a car parks there, they remove the bag and tow the car. They pay kickbacks to spotters to help them find tows, especially on weekends.

Best to know the law before you put your foot down. Would of been beter off just talking to tow truck dri er. Said I don't know what the law is but we got a complaint. The tow driver probably would have happily informed the officer of the law and they would have built a repore. Missed oppertunity. The most important part of law enforcement is building personal relationships with people. Once u have that relationship it is suprising how it will help you do your job. Typed on cell so excuse my errors.

I got towed off the PA pike a few years back in the Philly area all the way to Bergeys, tractor and trailer. I got towed off the turnpike back in 01 near Somerset to the Cat shop, tractor and trailer as well.

yep lake village, AR at a little citgo truck stop. as for tracing a cell number, thats what pre paid burner cell phones are for.

my woman is ok, wound up with some lesions on her brain from low blood oxygen levels resulting in mild short term memory loss and some cognitive function loss. not too serious. i applied to abf for a local ltl job and was accepted until they noticed i dont have a full 2 years driving experience. so i went back to marten for a few months to finish out my 2 years then i'll resubmit to abf. the terminal manager there said he always needs drivers and its hard to find ones that clear their hr department like i did (minus the 2 years experience).
