i got a ticket today in CA on one of the busiest strips of freeway in the country for driving in the wrong lane. Total BS. 2 freeways merge together for a couple miles making about 7 lanes. The officer said I was in lane 2 (lane 1 being fast lane) I've driven in that same lane plenty of times and seem many others do the same with cops around and no repercussions. Has anyone experienced this before? Is it a moving violation that will affect my CSA score? I'm obviously going to fight it. Any advice would help. Thanks.

Not sure about your CSA score, but I've seen many trucks get nailed for the same thing. It doesn't matter if there are 7 or 20 lanes. In California they will cite you if you aren't in the 2 right lanes unless there is a sign that says "Trucks OK This Lane". Usually that happens a couple miles before a split. I doubt if fighting it will do any good since you were out there.

Were you on the 5 freeway in Irvine? These cops are just your to fleece the taxpayers. I've gotten a few of these over the years I am local and it's a total scam.

That's not too bad for a CDL ticket. Still going to fight tooth and nail.

You should probably take video or some pictures of the way the lanes are laid out because we are supposed to have like a mile of grace period to merge safely. Most of these cops just write tickets because there is no recourse if they are wrong. And they know it will cost you two days of work to come in and fight it after you pay for the privilege to go to court and be told you can't even argue or say anything go pay your fine have a nice day. I've won a few and I've lost a few I at least think if you can you should fight it . Most of these cops also aren't prepared because they figure you won't be so if you have evidence it could help.

Thanks for the advice. Luckily the courthouse is close by where I live. I plan on contesting in writing first so hopefully it will get thrown out before I have to miss work over it.

It's really not bs , I'm not local and know that interchange well you were to far left before you came up on it , you know that.
Its doesn't matter how many times you or other drivers you've see get away with it.
That line won't work in court especially being a local driver.
