Some Pilot in TN, a little north of the Alabama border on 65. Was hoping it'd be warmer down here. Well it is, but not by much!

LOL...that figures. Yeah when it's that cold I leave them closed for insulation when I'm out of the truck. Two things I've learned out here.

    1) always have the CB on (while awake)
    2) whenever you hear a thump, think something of it. Could be a knock, someone hitting your truck or even some jerk pulling your fith wheel lever. Ya never know.

Yep, our paths will cross again. Never did get your number. I'll PM mine to ya.

I've read on here several times, it's good practice to check it just in case. I even hear some trainers do it see if their trainees catch it.

I've heard of drivers doing it but I've never seen anyone pull someones fifth wheel....

But I do a quick tug test before I move the truck anytime I have been away from the truck. EVERYTIME!

Don't be the idiot that drops your trailer!

Yes, a tug test means to release TRUCK brakes but leave TRAILER brakes applied, then put in gear and pull on it a couple of times firmly to ensure you have the trailer hooked good.

Part of my pretrips daily are: 1. Visual and physical touch of the 5th wheel release lever, pushing on it to make sure it's seated. 2. Crouch under the trailer and visually confirm the locking jaws are locked around the kingpin. 3. Tug Test when I start the truck for the day. That way I know for sure that it's secure. I drop and hook at least 2 trailers every single day, sometimes as many as 5 or 6, and I do this without fail each and every time.
