Right steer tire. Chunks of tread missing. I can't remember anything I may have run over to cause this. This is a Prostar that sees nothing but pavement. Were I still driving a log truck, such a find might not surprise me. Anybody seen a tire do this before? Looks like I may need to buy a tire before my next trip out. It's a Michelin xza3+ 275/80 22.5

Looks like you turned the wheel on something without the tire rolling. Expansion joint, broken concrete, something like that. Seen a guy make a u-turn in a DC that had a rail line in it,his trailer pivoted on the tracks. Sliced four trailer tires like a razor.

Turning the wheel on something has definitely crossed my mind. Only thing throwing me off from that theory is there are smaller chunks missing in the area before and after the big chunk which makes me think I possibly rolled over something. Of course I could have still been inching forward or backward while turning the wheel which would explain that. I will definitely be paying closer attention to the lots I deliver to now.

Broken concrete or a rock or maybe a defective spot in tire

How old is the tire ?

What date was it manufactured ??

Sometimes, Michelins aren't what they're supposed to be........

That's not going to hurt anything. It's not down into the structural part of the tire, and if you have some sort of active balancing, it'll run a long time like that.

Check the crevasse in between treads for any dry rotting/cracking.
