I don’t know what the answer is to responders, LEO, and highway workers being struck, while doing their jobs. It’s so easy to simply move over and slow down. I almost feel like the feds need to implement an automatic life sentence for those who do strike one of them. Maybe, that’d be enough of a deterrent.

It would only become a deterrent IF a judge would impose that sentence. I would most likely happen very sporadically, making it a very weak deterrent.

The accident happened near Rawlins early on Wednesday, December 21st on Interstate 80.

According to Casper Star Tribune, the ambulance was attempting to respond to a medical emergency on I-80 when their ambulance was struck by a semi truck. The force of the impact killed one and injured another EMT. It is unclear if the truck driver was hurt in the crash.
I-80 between Rawlins and Creston Junction was closed at about 10 a.m. CST for cleanup and investigation of the incident. Officials estimate the roadway will reopen between 2 and 4 p.m. CST.

It is unclear whether the truck driver will face charges.

Road Closed Due To Winter Conditions
As of December 21 at 05:30 p.m., the estimated opening time is in 18 to 20 hours. Parking on the roadway is prohibited and delays WYDOT from opening the road.

    RAWLINS, Wyo. -
A two-vehicle crash was initially reported early in the morning on Dec. 21, involving a semi-tractor with a trailer and a pickup truck pulling a small enclosed trailer.

Around 4:15 am, while crews were attending to possible injuries, a 2019 Freightliner semi-tractor with trailer struck two of the first responders and hit the rear of an ambulance, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Both individuals were Memorial Hospital of Carbon County EMTs.

The individual who was killed has been identified as 29-year-old Tyeler Harris of Saratoga, Wyoming.

The driver of the tractor-trailer that crashed into the original incident scene has been identified as Saviol Saint Gean, of Brooklyn, New York.

Wyoming Highway Patrol says the driver’s inattention is being investigated as a possible contributing factor of the crash.

on Dec. 21, Wyoming Highway Patrol reported troopers had responded to over 787 calls for service, 196 motorists assist and 104 crashes in 12 hours.
