Why would you want to do that? :biggrin_2556: I would venture to guess that D.O.T would have an issue with it.

As long as the light has the proper codes on the lens, DOT can't say jack. Aren't the lights on a Columbia right out of a M-class Benz? That ought to make it a little easier to swap over, just find a wreck.

Mercedes M-class with HID is equipped with projector type low beam and halogen (H7) high beam. Headlamp is with self levelling and AFL to avoid glare.

But really ML headlamps fit Columbia.

If you put HID in stock reflector type headlamps you make your truck galre monster, and headlamps are on average car windshield level. Try to imageine how many times you'll be cursed...

Go back a generation or two, and the light housings are the same. And I assumed he was talking about a full swap, and was fairly certain the later model year ML's of that generation had projectors. Just sticking in the cheesy HID bulbs, which are indeed glare monsters due to the geometry differences of the light sources; is a bad idea. As bad as stock Columbia's are about glare, I hate to think how bad they'd be with just the drop-ins.

If an HID conversion is made it should be legal. I drove a 2010 KW T660 with the HID headlights. I've seen newer Vulva's with them.

Why do people use those irritating lights to begin with. So, they can see and others are not able to because of them.

DDM tuning makes kits that are plug in play. Just know what type of bulb you have and order there kit. All you do is remove the factory bulb, plug the factory bulb harness into the ballast and then connect the HID bulb. There kits run $35. I've had mine in my personal truck for over a year.
