I did a 13yr stretch at an LTL, 1 time I accepted a brand new truck, and that was because the driver that would have been assigned that truck was out on extended medical leave. Company didn’t believe he was coming back, but 4 months later he did, he thru a cow ‘his truck’ was being used . So, I lost it, turned down every new truck that came my way after that.

    JoeyJunk Thanks this.

I did some math, and as a company driver, if you have an older truck that breaks down a half dozen times throughout a year, it can end up costing you about $4000 to $6000 a year in wages. Even if you’re getting breakdown pay because usually that’s like 1/3 of what you get driving.

Never lost a nights work for lack of a truck to drive. Many times over the years did my assigned route, with either the yard spare, or one who was on vacation. Usually took the yard spare, never liked using another drivers truck.

Covid has everything to do with it.

It gives the gvmnt control freaks a reason and means to mess things up.

Congratulations. It's is nice to get a new truck. I got one in Dec 2020 it also had 13 miles on it. Before that my record low mileage was 34 miles. I always seemed to get my new truck unexpectedly and with almost no time to move my gear over. I bring a lot of stuff, so moving feels like invading Russia in winter. I wind up throwing everything inside and rush off and then spend the next days getting things put away properly. I learned the hard way, don't drive away until you have the kingpin release figured out. It's no fun, and embarrassing to not be able to unhook from a trailer.

Do you frequent the Swift yard there beside UT-201 in SLC/West Valley, UT?

    Perhaps so.
But looking at a problem from different sides provides some greater perspective.

you never realize how much crap you can fit in a ~60” box until it’s time to clean it out

although if we are calling a 2019 truck “old” I don’t know what to call my 1997….
