I kind of had the same dilemma that you have I chose the Yellow route I casualed for 18 months. I'm in Grand Rapids MI witch is not a hub had I lived in Chicago or Detroit my casual time would have been quicker. I finally got hired then quickly was laid off, finally my wife said get a Job. I eventually landed at TNT Holland Now USF Holland Ironicly now owned by Yellow.
(Currently I wouldn't recommend Holland, Yellow is making sweeping changes; the customers are kind of waiting to see how it shakes out. I don't think Holland will go out of business or anything but it's a crap shoot witch terminals will be hiring and laying off in the future)
I'm not sure where I would go if I was you, Freight is somewhat slow currently but with Sigma people are still going to have to eat...If you go the Yellow route find some part time work cause no matter where you work in the system you will have 50 hour weeks and 6 hour weeks! I worked for a Postal carrier, Owens Corning, Delivered Flowers and Ryder. One thing with Yellow you will have plenty off daytime hours available to look for other stuff good Luck
Yellow, and now also Sygma.
