Yep, a bobtail u-turn and safety is all over me about it.

I've only been terminated for cause once, and it was back in my company driver days messing around with companies I really shouldn't have been. I drove around in one of their trucks for about 10 days before they caught wind of a minor reportable road incident I left off the application but was eventually reported by a previous employer to them. Shouldn't have done that of course and valuable lesson learned but thought it was hilarious anyway they'd wasted all that time and money on me and then thrown me the keys to one of their trucks, only to have some HR or safety & compliance doofus decide I wasn't honest enough on the application for their liking and was told to clean out the truck. I mean that really tells you how much of a throwaway commodity you are as a driver at a typical mega or mega-ish type carrier and they really throw you under the bus if any minor stupid little thing happens. After that I kind of learned my lesson and refused to ever work for a big OTR outfit ever again, and nowadays the idea of driving somebody else's truck and having the boss tell me what to do and when to do it probably ain't happening either.

One of things that I don't understand about these driver's posts getting beaned about things like u-turns, going 5mph over the speed limit, and other things like that, is the kind of staff you would have to hire to be pencil necked dick heads pouring over video. I would think moving freight would be the top concern. I guess not if some of the posts are genuine.

Oh, we also elect these types to Congress and allow them to muscle their way into all sorts of positions of power in the private and public sector to lord over other people's lives. That's been on full display the past few years.

A little. People are dishonest about all sorts of things all of the time. So what. It's a matter of degree and severity. You probably lied or omitted something to someone this past week or even today perhaps. No, but the part I find funny about how megas do business is that they wont even bother making sure they are 100% satisfied with your qualifications before throwing you the keys and sending you out to work, then they'll fire you over some minor BS a week or two later when some some previous employer *cough*OldDominion*cough* tattles on you for scraping a trailer in the yard one day. Nothing on the driving record or anything that a decent or reasonable employer would even care about, but those HR broads and safety department pencil-necks have to justify their existence somehow while I'm out doing the real work. So that's why mega carriers aren't worth messing with...to keep this thread sort of on track. They're a system that chews people up and spits them out and they have no qualms about effing with people or ruining their careers. It's the wrong way to do business and is a major reason why the trucking industry is what it is today.

A driver that's been around the game for awhile wouldn't go anywhere near one those companies or their crappy trucks that are smart enough to tattle on you for making a legal U-turn, yet somehow not smart enough to know whether there is a trailer hooked to the truck or not.

You lied on your application about a screw up. They found out about it and let you go. I can't imagine any company, mega or small, over looking that. The way they see it you'll likely run over or otherwise tear something up and not mention it. You're a liability.
