I just graduated from truck driving school and have my cdl. The school first told me that my felony conviction from 2002 wouldn't be a problem, then told me 2 days before graduation to forget getting a job with any OTR company.
Any input or suggestions about this?

It may be a challenge, but you can get hired.

Read some other posts on here about your situation. Depends on the charge, but some companies will look at you if the conviction is over 7 years old

It is going to largely depend on what felony record you have. If it's drug related - good luck to you

some want it to be 10yrs from conviction date or even end of time served. I just hit my 10yr mark so i am only fighting what my misdemeanors were for, none were drugs or such but still a hurtle none the less.

and here-in lies another person that was cajoled into going to school....for the life of me i will not understand why potential would be students don't get enough information BEFORE they sign school entrance papers....

as stated, it will depend on the felony you have....but suffice it to say, not too many large (or mega carriers as we call them) will touch you. it will be a long upward climb for you to say the least. you might get lucky and get a job with a local company, but given the unemployment situations, and now take into account your record, you very well may be over-looked...in favor of an out of work driver with a crystal clear past...

i really wish you well, you should hope for the best, but expect the worst. as for your former school, too bad you cannot try and somehow MAKE THEM find you a job as they did after all LIE to you in the very beginning......maybe even speak with your attorney, maybe he can send them a threatening letter something about "bait and switch" or "misrepresentation of facts".....or whatever else your attorney can threaten them with.....this may not work, but it might very well FORCE THEM to find a job for you......

you may be better off to look at a local delivery company or mom-pop operation than a large carrier

Not all not even most companies look as far as 3 to 5 years back for a conviction. There is plenty of trucker job's out there for you. These people that are replying trying to put fear in your heart are slow minded don't mind them.
