OK before I continue most warn my grammar is bad since still learning English will try my best and use a spelling corrector.

I got my CDL in 1997 drove for boydbro for less than a month since stupid me did not knew I could ask for a new trainer but no complaint about them I take the blame for that.
Later I went to drive for auto drive away delivering straight truck ,day cap and conventional no trailers and pay was really bad since had to pay for fuel sometimes out of my pocket so I quit driving got me a job in a warehouse till 2010.

2012 been 2 years no job apply for cr England ,Stevens and swift but was because of desperation I have to be honest and OTR not my first choice .
My plan was to drive a year and get a local job.

Then 5/2012 I saw in local news paper a job as yard jockey/driver I knew was hard to get a job like that with my little experience but send my resume just to try .
They call me for a interview and they was honest with me told me they need it someone with experience also let me know was a crazy shift two day start at 4pm 2 days at 8pm one day at 6pm and lot of walking to fuel truck when have no work(so that help me there because not every driver like that )
also there will be delivery and rescue involve they say even that I did not have experience they congratulate me for my clean driving record and that will keep me in mind .

7/28 I got a call from them asking if I still available I say yes they say to come for a second interview and possible road test so I went.(was so close to go with swift )
all went well except for took me 14 minutes to park trailer was first time I drove with a trailer since 1997 they them told me if they need me they call me again .( at this moment was thinking I can't backup and I won't get hire but was so good to drive again a truck was a rush for me )
5 days later I got a job offer even offer me 2 dollars more an hour than what I was told in interview .

They train me during day shift now i can backup in fair time my boss is happy with me and I happy with the way they are with me. (So far all driver seen happy with company lot of over time for them also the regional driver seen happy)
I already rescue few drivers that ran out of hours and pick up loads and I happy with my job for the first time in years I happy with what I do.

I heard that they have a better choice a guy with 1 million safe miles and during his second interview he start talking crap about Dispatchers little he knew he was getting interview by one so they hire me over him .

anything is possible but the likly hood is another story. to me you just got lucky and not to be mean but perhaps your background helped. also the fact you where jobless for 2 years really helps as they get a bonus for hiring you. foriegn back ground and jobless people get companies bonus checks from the goverment.

Its very possible to get a local job with no experience. I was having a hard time finding one because i am student driver and only 21. I went to a company called ARG and applied in person rather then over the internet like most large companies require. I find that applying in person, whether it be for a local or OTR job, is the best option to getting any job. They get to see more then a name on a piece of paper, which was my problem with every other company. When the AGR recruiter actually met me he realized i may be 21 but i am not a kid. not trying to toot my own horn but i have been told all my life i carry myself and conduct myself in a manner well beyond my age, so i used that to my advantage.

I've had 3 local job offers in the last year, none offered more than $14.50 an hour. Not enough to entice me.

Really, with ARG an experienced driver of 1-2 years starts out the same as me at 13.60, during training, an hour and .35 a mile. After training you would be making 17.05 an hour and still .35 a mile. then after 90 days it would go to .38 a mile and 17.55 an hour. on top of that they, i quote, "any trip that is under 23 miles or less one way will be paid a flat rate, this includes loading/unloading, number of miles to the destination and an equivalent number of miles." end quote. that pay is 43.75 dollars.

    Bluestraveler and evd Thank this.
