Since you don't own a truck and can't understand the liabilities, I believe I will ask the question instead of having a scare factor of a post be created without background info. PLUS I have practical experience with this issue Crappie, which if you were someone I could trust, I would PM you with not just the story but also where to find three federal criminal cases and the two FDA rulings on the matter. BUT I can't trust you and I would think that with all due respect, the OP can come up with cases to illustrate the issues and maybe explain them to all of us, seeing he is a lawyer and he is giving advice.

 

What makes you think I don't understand the liabilities? My uncle has been an o/o for 30 years. I use to ride with him every summer. Be has explained the business to me and I know a lot more than you think. Please don't assume you are smarter than me based on previous convos. It could make you come across as being arrogant and that is just not becoming of a man that claims to be a business owner and has the educational background that you do.

It wasn't you, until you take the step to add the risk on your shoulders, you wouldn't get what it is about. Having an uncle or father or brother doing it is not the same thing. Sorry but I didn't know what my dad went through when he was in the military until I worked with the people that did his job, so it is the same thing in trucking. AND It has nothing to do with being smarter than anyone else, it has to do with the issue of knowing the risks and mitigating those risks as first hand experience.

Again I know about this subject first hand and know what on the medical side how it is applied but on the trucking side I would like the OP explain it a bit better with actual real world examples.

Reminds me of back in high school working as a camp counselor...kids would be running the obstacle course and you'd hear one kid say to another "you should be good at this...your dad was in the army" . All you can do is shake your head and ignore the ignorance. Just because your dad/uncle/brother/cousin/friend/etc can do something doesn't mean you have the first clue what all is involved in making it happen, and it isn't even an indicator of whether or not you would be successful following in their footsteps. How many family businesses are built by one generation, handed down to the next, and run into the ground by that 2nd or 3rd generation DESPITE that individual having "grown up in the industry"?

When the mythical disaster is happening with your worst fears come true and body parts are fixing to be scattered among the steel, you'rn own vehicle no less... and the clock has pretty much stopped leaving you in a horrible state of suspended living viewing a movie in 4K of the pending impact coming up fast.

There is a part of me that goes between that pie chart. In between the slices lie a blank page. I intend to go through my options like really fast, choose one and if necessary write my own solution to he developing problem for which you never have received a moment's consideration other that possibly derisive laughter at your stupid questions back in school so long ago.....

It is not a felony, I know lots of people who have been ticketed for log book violations and they can all vote.

And I would argue that it is not the "culture of trucking" that encourages false log book entries, it is the culture of governments who know nothing about the industries that they regulate deciding what those rules should be.
