Not to sound negative because I'm not trying to be but how are you making a profit on 1600 gross? Again I'm just curious not trying to be negative.

I cant profit on 1600, This week is pretty much busted because of the truck being in the shop and my preplan imploding wednesday evening, My goal after wednesday was to just salvage what was left and break even. I'll be past the even point but im trying to squeeze in one more load before cut off so i can pocket atleast 500 next week. I ran two loads yesterday and im sitting on this one till tomorrow. If everything stays as planned I'll gross 2400 I figure i can squeeze in one more short hop after my monday drop.

Its the EPA's way on cutting down on emissions coming out your rear. They tried attaching a DPF to ones rear but it ended up looking like that episode of Southpark with cartman having a satellite out his rear.

    Hi All

Why does it always seem like the load in the middle is the one that cancels. I was originally heading to green-bay but a load cancelled i found out about the weather and decided the free pm isnt worth the trip. This week a load cancelling was a good thing.

But how do y'all typically deal with loads cancelling do you pull your entire plan? Plug something in? Or just deadhead to the next pickup? If its worth it of-course.

Now we all know its a ton of us newbies running around and i personally never had to deal with winter time and keeping a truck running if it broke in the past i just call the boss. So to my experienced guys please share some info with us on avoiding breakdowns during the winter? Right now my method is stay far away from the near 0 temperatures. I am planning to get a bottle of that 911 Fuel liquid. By anychance will the Tripac warm my fuel?

I had some other stuff i wanted to talk about but it slipped my mind my dispatcher has been running me in circles i taking the rest of the day off (kind of im in the truck) before the 11 day stretch working right up til dinner on thanksgiving.

Well when loads cancel, think about it - there's only so much you can do. First thing to try to do is find another load to take it's place. If the deadhead is worth it to you, then deadhead. If the deadhead isn't worth it, and you can't find another load to replace the cancelled one with, then have all your loads pulled and start from scratch.

I never liked to run additives in the truck I leased because of the DPF. With my CAT now I wouldn't be too concerned about it since there is no emissions stuff to plug up. If you're gonna run where temperature might become an issue, don't go straight up into the cold with nothing but that tank of southern fuel. Different blends in different parts of the country. If you have a diesel TriPac it will circulate the fuel in the one tank (almost always the tank on the same side that the unit is mounted on) but not on the other side. It doesn't have a dedicated heater to heat the fuel but it is being circulated through the injector pump and back through the return line but just to that one tank. It's not gonna do much good to keep the tank on the opposite side (as well as the fuel lines, etc.) from gelling up if it gets really really cold.

If the temperature got down into the teens when I was parked I would idle - only had to do this a couple times, but then again I stayed out of the super cold weather most of the time. Make sure you high idle, not good to let a diesel sit there and wetstack all night long at a low RPM. On those super cold mornings there sure were a lot of trucks pulled off to the side of the road with the service trucks nearby - there was enough liquid fuel to get them out of the rest area but they didn't get far. The diesel tripacs (and the idlefree units I believe) will circulate coolant through the engine block to help keep it warm. Still, don't forget that there is a good section of uninsulated fuel line running from the tank to the water separator that could give trouble as well. While it sucks to idle I sure was happy to be up and on my way instead of sitting on the side of the road with a bunch of gelled up crap in my fuel lines.

Also remember that extreme cold is hard on just about everything. Built up grease in your 5th wheel will glob up and prevent it from operating correctly. Oil is thick, plug in your block heater if you can at an OC and make sure you give the engine a chance to warm up before you hammer down on that on-ramp. Another thing is just because it's frickin' cold outside, don't let that prevent you from looking over your truck and catching any issues before they really become a problem.

When a load cancels on me the 1st thing I do is look at the load board and try and fit another in.

If that don.t work I see if the DH is worth the next load and then if not I have them pull all my pre loads so I can start over. It sometimes benefits me sometimes not. but it is part of being in business for your self. Good Luck
