Sorry, but no. I just asked the closest 3rd shift worker I could find (myself) and the answer is a resounding Yes! Blow the air horn! Do you know what will happen when I get woken up by an air horn? I'll get up, go use the restroom, and go right back to sleep and sleep sounder with an empty bladder.
Are you saying that postal workers shouldn't ring a doorbell to deliver a certified letter (I'm glad he did, I was waiting on that letter) or that firetrucks and ambulances shouldn't run their sirens?
Simple fact is the 3rd shifters I know tends to be a heaver sleeper. Otherwise they would be waking up every time a car dives by.God prefers Diesels, stuckinthemud, gokiddogo and 8 others Thank this. -
If a toddler hands you a toy phone, you answer it. If a child pumps their arm, you honk.
These are simple rules.The_vett, God prefers Diesels, Accidental Trucker and 16 others Thank this. -
I see a kid pumping their arm, I'm blowing the horn. Simple as that.
Funny little story behind this. A while back I was having some issues, and was just mad at the world. I'd see kids doing the arm pump and ignore it. My airhorn never got used for like six months or something.
So I'm headed home one day around lunchtime and I see kid at an ice cream shop. He's a little plump... He looked like the kid in the wheelchair from the new Bad News Bears movie with Billy Bob Thornton. Anyways he does the arm pump and it made me smile for once. So I yank the cord.....and it stuck. Now I'm driving through a small town that's about half a mile long, and I'm six miles from home with an air horn that won't shut up....
I believe the trucking God's were telling me something that day. And I listenedThe_vett, God prefers Diesels, stuckinthemud and 6 others Thank this. -
I will admit this is one of those things I have heard but have no idea if it actually happened. I think it happened in Texas. The driver said he blew his air horn for a kid and had a state trooper stop him a few minutes later. Look I was one of the type of drivers that would blow my air horn if I saw a beautiful seat cover. The last tractor I drove was a Prostar and mine had an airhorn button on the wheel. I loved to scare kids with it. Many times a kid would make that action with their arm and I would shake my head. Then as they turned away blew my horn. They always loved that and I always left them laughing. I'm not sure I would blow my air horn in a quiet residential neighborhood.

Last fall I was headed east on I-74 through Ill. and a car passed me with a little boy, maybe 4, pumping furiously from the back seat. I , of course, did what he wanted, because after all, I still like a good air horn myself! Anyway, his mom apparently hadn't seen what he was up to, and she jumped like fury, her mouth going top speed, then turned around and just smacked him! That little tot just looked out the window with the biggest grin I've ever seen.
Honk at the kids!
