Sigh… as the “jerk in a company truck” who’s story of passing/not passing started this digression from the original post (apologies to Brandonpdx, whose thread it somewhat derailed), I just want to suggest that you reread what I wrote. I stand by it, wouldn’t do it any differently if the circumstances were the same (no other traffic behind us so we weren’t blocking anyone, knowing that the other truck, who was a half a truck length behind me was going to lose his lane fairly soon).

To recap, I went to pass another truck who was going slower than me, who then sped up so I couldn’t complete the pass and get back over into the right lane. If that makes me a jerk, well then so be it.

What lane you should or shouldn’t be in or what maneuver you should or shouldn’t attempt is highly situational. It requires being alert and “in the moment” (Coach: “get your head in the game!!!”). A lot of driver’s think they should be able to just space out and do whatever they want to do and everybody else just has to deal with it, which of course is the wrong attitude. It also requires a stronger than average attention span to do this for hours on end. I take a break every 2-3 hours at least. I can tell when my attention span starts to waver or nap time is looming.

Why do you keep trying to put this on the guy in the left lane? The guy in the right lane is the one who did wrong, so he's the one who should be correcting his behavior.

Well, you're making more out of my comment than what it is.

I'll keep thinking the guy holding up 30 vehicles from utilizing the left lane for 20 miles is as big a douchebag as the guy in the right lane speeding up,

And you just keep believing only one guy is at fault for that situation.

So what does that make me, the guy in the situation above? Yep, I’m in the left lane, there because I was passing the other truck. I wasn’t inching past him, either, and I was half a truck length ahead of him when he sped up. He didn’t pull up even or go to pass me in turn, I assume his top speed was also governed to 70 mph. No, he just sat there in the right lane, halfway back.

I’ve already noted that I checked and there wasn’t anyone behind either of us, so I wasn’t holding up traffic. I also already noted that I knew that he’d have to slow down pretty soon, as I knew that his lane was closed up ahead for construction pretty soon (it turned out to be about 4 minutes).

Goodness, I never mentioned you. I asked you a question, you answered it, and I appreciated that.

RockinChair took offense to it for some reason, and I don't care why.

I said exactly how I feel. I think it should be hard to misinterpret.

    Ridiculous

I will keep on believing that the guy who caused the situation in the first place is the one solely responsible for the situation that he created.
