I have no ideal truckstop. I pull in, fuel, sleep, maybe eat, and then get back on the road immediately. Money is not made making use of truckstop amenities. Money is made moving product from point A to point B.
Truckstops are a necessary evil, not a home away from home. -
Im not an O/O but if I could build one I would have the following in it
Truck wash
barber shop
nurse on staff 24/7
"walmart" kinda store where the prices are cheap
some kind of entertainment besides video games and tv
motel
lots and lots of showers
vareity of food joints from a good sit down meal to a fast food place -
I'm a simple man. Just give me clean facilities and prices not set to take advantage of you because you can't get a truck into the local napa for parts. Oh and mabey full service fueling if you want to splurge

I would want one that did not have the left over smell of dirty rotten filthy pieces of crap truck drivers that think it is ok to pour there pee bottles out on the pavement. Truck drivers that wonder why people hate us, sometimes need not look any further than a mirror! Im not saying that it is all of us because I am not one of them. I find dirt on the side of the road or something. They are a necessary evil but it is not necessary for them to make us look so bad or smell so bad. When I smell a parking lot all I can think of is how much people have a right to feel the way that they do about us. To all of those that do not participate in the sewer lots, thank you. For all of those who do, thanks for bringing truckers from the highway hero's to the highway zeros!!!
Oh, and a free steak dinner with every $400 fuel purchase would be good too -
My ideal truckstop would have full service fuel islands with a truck-size drive-thru restaurant. Maybe combine both so you can fuel up, pay, get your coffee and sandwich all from one spot, then hit the road again.
And for the benefit of Semi-Retired and the image of truck drivers overall, the fuel island should have a separate and secure pee bottle disposal system. Maybe at window level so a driver could just drop it in on the way through the islands.
I guess the truck driver in me is a hard habit to break. My wife and kids hate it when we have to travel anywhere out of state--I'm a hammer down... don't stop till the bladder is gonna bust... eat-a-pack-of-peanuts-'cause-we-ain't-stoppin' kinda traveler. -
I think that the drive though would be great for a t/s as well because if there is not place to park we have to go through the fuel island and park to go in and pee and grab a quick bite to eat. Also if we could get little hotties to roller skate to the trucks with an order or supplies instead of us going in all the way from the back row then that would be cool. They could work on tips and such. For instance Im getting real hungry right now and I have to choose whether to get dressed to go inside in the cold or go to sleep
to get it out of my mind...hmmmm
