My second job told me that they don't run in Rocky Mountain states in the winter. I showed up for the interview, and the truck had auto-chains on it.

Got in my trainer's truck for the first time, still at the company terminal, and as soon as we shut the doors, the first words out of his mouth: "ok, drive it like you stole it."

I'd more than happily take a driving job that required the driver to wrench on the truck. Under the right conditions of course:

-Smaller company. A few trucks but not enough to warrant a full-time mechanic.
-Trucks are mechanically sound and owner is willing to pay to keep them that way.
-Hourly pay and tools/supplies are provided.

Plus it'd weed out the drivers that just want to be meat in the seat.

Thats flat rate pay like at SHipEX.

Guaranteed pay has its downsides as well though. At my company they guarantee 1200 dollars but that only equals about 1800 miles a week.

The problem with this is that the planners seem to use this as a stop on your miles once you get there and then allow other drivers coming off home time to "catch up" before you get another decent load because they also require 1800 miles this week. Of course this is denied but experience says that is exactly what happens. It's all good when there are plenty of loads but when it's slim you can end up sitting for 2-3 days while other drivers who just showed up get out with a load with 0 wait.

You are rolling down the exit ramp, reach for the jake brake, confused for a second until you realize you are driving a Honda and not a Freightliner.

This also happens when you get home from the grocery store and immediately try to log yourself off duty before getting the stuff out of the trunk.

Apparently this means that you should drive in the 2nd or 3rd lane, 64mph, and never move over until you get to your exit,
