I don't really think so. It seems like if a shipper wants to tow your truck because of it being on their property, they'll say "we're not affecting your employment, just your pocketbook, and that's not protected"

You folks need to realize that the words "safe" and "haven" have real world meanings that exist outside of the "safe haven" provision of the regulations. That term means one thing in the law, but in practical terms it means more than that and there is nothing wrong with people using it to mean a safe place to park.
If you are going to be pedantic about things at least make sure you are correct.TPS Report and 18 wheels of fury Thank this. -
ok ok ok ok I got just looking for a safe place to park......lol
Chasingthesky and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
When parking a semi it has a very specific meaning. It is correct to point out that very specific meaning when one talks about parking a semi. If people wanted to use "safe parking" then there would no problem. Kinda like back when I was selling computets. People would point to the monitor, or even the desktop say say "that's my hard drive there."Bean Jr. and driverdriver Thank this.

It has a specific meaning within the context of the law. That's it.

Private property trumps your HOS every time. Sure, you don't have to legally move the truck but the shipper can have it towed off their property if they wish.
The problem with e logs is that the infrastructure isn't there to accommodate the rules. There needs to be more parking made available so drivers can take proper breaks. But that will never happen, voters won't vote for it and the big truckstop chains will fight it. -
Since the main purpose for the police is to generate revenue for their jurisdiction, and you call them and ask them to escort you to a safe location, what's to prevent them from writing you a ticket for driving while you're out of hours?DoubleO7 Thanks this.

A lot of companies are doing away with the "off-duty driving" line. Too many drivers abusing it.

Its not that we're definition despots, the problem is, that its not unusual for drivers to conflate the safe haven rule, the rule that allows extra drive time for unforseen circumstances and interpret that mix of half truths to think they can keep driving if the truck stop is full. As I mentioned in my reply, I have no vested interest in whether you bend the rules or not. However, its good to be clear on what the laws and limitations actually are. Could save someone trouble down the road.kemosabi49 and Bean Jr. Thank this.
