Very few larger carriers have a "line 5 option" so for the purposes of this discussion we probably should act like this is not an option - which leads us back to the reality you're going to have some un-editable Drive time. It's not the end of the world as many have stated so long as this rarely happens.
Most carriers using Omnitracs have a special macro to send log violation explanations (so it get's to the right person and it's prompty and correctly addressed)
Various systems may have various means to drive without committing Drive time [up to certain limits and thresholds]. That's all I'm going to say.
You run out of hours, not allowed to park on property for your 10

Surely you cannot be suggesting that someone could possibly put themselves on duty, log off the qualcom, drive to the nearest rest area, log back on the qualcom, and accidentally misremember that on-duty time as a thorough post-trip inspection. Because contemplating such a notion would involve considering serious ethical ramifications!Last edited: Oct 16, 2017

Had that problem a few times pulling reefers, but never had that problem pulling tankers.

We had that available. If I knew I needed a 10 hr. break before doing any serious driving, I'd log on to a break at the shipper or receiver. When I would leave I'd stay on break and the Elog would beep which means in 5 seconds it will switch to driving which would be in violation. I could push a button before the 5 seconds and drive 10 more minutes while still showing I was on break. One receiver where I did this was 80 miles away from the nearest legal parking at a truckstop so I drove the 80 miles with my finger hovering over the button and pushed it every 10 minutes when it beeped and stayed on break the whole time.
When I got to the truckstop, I only needed about 3 or 4 more hours to complete a 10 hr. break. Did that, then hit the road with a full driving segment fresh and ready to go.BigBob410 Thanks this. -
That would be nice but I've not seen such a setup. Currently have to slow enough (near stop) before you are given access to any HOS screen interaction. But as long as you perform a certain change before you travel too far or too long you can keep the Drive from ever committing. Pain in the butt but it's sometimes necessary in the real world of refrigerated hauling where limits often are pushed out of necessity.BigBob410 Thanks this.

We could drive as fast as the truck would run. When the company found out about it, of course they changed the programming to where you couldn't even change parking spots in a truck stop without being in violation.BigBob410 Thanks this.

So what's the real story on this driver? Looks like he is on the side of a highway so did the police tell him to move or get towed?

I watched part of the video. Seems the driver was out of hours, shipper said get out and he parked on the shoulder to wait for the wrecker that his company called so he wouldn't violate. At least that's what I got out of it. Other then that poor driveshaft!!! Man he brutalized that thing!! Lol.

Sounds like this thread is mostly reefer related?

Yeah I didn't want to watch over an hour video so I watched the beginning he said they told him to get off the property he can't stay out of hours. Man seems like such a major hassle not only does the driver have no hours to drive now he has his "home" taken away on top of it even if it's temporary. What a fed up situation. And yeah I saw that beating on the driveshaft with that hammer. He needs to get a soft dead blow hammer for that. Not really gonna damage a steel driveshaft though just chip the paint and cause it to rust quicker.
