Looks like the trailer is a bit overdue for a rebuild, or chopped for scrap. Good to hear you stood up and did not drag it like that.

Could be rebuilt easy, just not many want to put money back into used equipment.

I would start looking around for another job.Your boss sounds like the kind of jerk who wont fire you because he doesnt want to do the unemployment deal but can hit you where it hurts, your wallet. He may be the kind of jerk to cut your miles and starve you out

You sir/ma'am, could not be more correct. It is complete junk, the tandems constantly shift back & forth whenever I'm backing & even touch the brakes. It's a real joy to slide into tight spots.

If it makes ya feel any better, I pull for a local outfit and NEVER take any of their junk on the big road...always back roads...no excuse, I know, but I liked the idea of being home every night as a newbie (just under a year now).

I'm now thinking it would be nice to actually make some money & maybe drive some equipment that isn't complete junk.

Already begun, I've been struggling to even come close to 40 hrs lately, this last week was the worst to date, I have literally had better weeks delivering pizza.

I think you're right about him starving me out and I have been looking, too bad USXpress seems to have fallen through...ohh well, they're a BFI anyway.

I guess I should start throwing some serious applications around.

I had to go get a tetanus shot after looking at the pictures. :biggrin_255:

You did the right thing. That trailer is unsafe, probably even with the pins in on both sides.

    Update:

Well well well, whaddya know? I was sooo right, once the mechanic finally got the right Side pins to disengage, we slid the tandems back & found the carriage was indeed tweaked, might have something to do with all the broken welds, but what do I know? I'm just a stupid driver.

I guess that throws the probably safe idea right out the window, huh?

I wonder if the boss man will even acknowledge the fact that he was wrong, maybe even apologize...I won't hold my breath.

Thanks for the feedback guys & gals, I didn't think I was being a big baby, but it's nice to hear it from my peers as well.

Just a thought..There HAS to be some local work in Indiana hauling coils around and the pay would be better than delivering pizza.!?

The only thing I would say is, if you don't have to go to boss with a problem like that and can take it right to your shop(if on premises), I'd just take it to the shop and leave boss out of it until I needed a command decision...Some companies operate differently so this may not be an option for you...If you go to him at that point you'll have a better leg to stand on when you say the shop looked at it and they need to keep it for a while...JMHO...

When I was about 21 and working at as a department manager I had an older employee working in my department. He came to me and told me he never got his raise and the store manager would only tell him he did. So I went to the office and sat down with the manager and told him the employee was wondering about his raise. The manager jumped up and shoved his chair back and said "he has let me show you". He walked over to the employee files pulled out the file and... It had not.

Kinda left him speechless. The guy got the raise the next check.

I would hope hauling coils would pay better than delivering pizza!

...funny side note, I applied to a pizza joint recently so I could put some extra scratch in ma pocket & they told me I didn't have enough recent, delivery experience!

I said "I beg to differ, I deliver anywhere from 40,000 to 120,000 pounds of steel a day, I think I can handle a few pizzas." He says: " that's not relevant to pizza delivery"...You little sunuva...whatever, I tucked my tail between my legs & left. My pizzas had better be perfect and on time from now on, that's all I have to say about that.

As for hauling coils locally, I don't think I have enough experience to land a gig like that yet, although I did haul coils OTR for 3 months, then landed this local gig 7 months ago on the premise that I could clear 35-40k (with bonuses) my first year. I have yet to see a bonus (not one driver has), even though I have not one service failure, have never missed a day or been late and Ido my job cheerily & get along well with even the most difficult customers (not even so much as a complaint).

As of this week, I have cleared just over 13k...WTF?

Boss man has never talked to me like that before, some of the other guys yes, but me never.

At any rate, I am on the hunt, I have put in my application with my top choice companies (Heyl, Cheeseman and Trimac). We'll see if that pans out, if not I'll start applying to some less desirable companies.

I have clean MVR, DAC and CVSR reports, good work history and have never failed a drug or alcohol test. The only negative thing is a minor misdemeanor from 8 years ago, so it shouldn't be too hard to find employment, I just don't like change and don't want to be perceived as a job-hopper but I have got to get away from this train wreck of a company.

I wish that was an option but we are a small outfit with only 11 drivers & boss man likes to micro-manage. So everything, and I mean everything, goes through him. He calls each of us at least three times a day to see where we are & gets an attitude if we don't answer right away...never mind that we're piloting an 80,000 pound beast, better answer that phone.
