Hey y'all I am starting driving school here in California this week. I was just wondering how limited my job prospects will be without being able to get a hazmat endorsement, (had an involuntary commitment 20 years ago). Thanks!

Upside is there are plenty of company's that do not run hazmat.

    Downside is Hazmat pays extra.

    Why is that a downside?

I assume it was Downside [of not being able to get a Hazmat endorsement] is that Hazmat pays extra.

    Tonythetruckerdude and TRKRSHONEY Thank this.

Hazmat will help. U will need all the help u can get out there in Cali. With all the new REGs in effect as of 1/1 out there, u will need all the help u can get for a job. Companies cant afford the upgrades, so get the Hazmat if u can. Good luck. Be safe out there drivers.

Your in Cali.I'd look into refrigerated if I were you. Not much need for hazmat there, and your state is loaded with produce that needs to come east....:biggrin_25525:

Why do you think you are ineligible for a hazmat endorsement? An "involuntary commitment"? Was there a crime involved?

Good advice there....Those jobs don't require lots of time away from home either. Make decent money and run up and down inside the state with some companies....just follow the seasons from Salinas to the southern side...Calexico , Holtville , El Centro , etc...

Thanks Guitar Man and Tony! I could use all of the info. I can get on Cali. jobs. Do opportunities in refrigerated require a long training period? Is it more likely to go solo or teams?
