I started training with Roehl Transport out of Marshfield, WI the week after I turned 21. I was tied into a year contract like most everyone who gets training with a company. I went through 4 months of solo OTR before I found a local job making more then I ever could OTR. When I broke the contract with them all I had to do was pay back the "loan" on the schooling. IMO training through a carrier might be your best bet. The only regret I have is that the local company I am with now would have trained me for free with no contracts and I would have been a lot farther along. Oh well. Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

first off, get first post, your starting out on the right foot, Here's my suggestion, Your young, if OTR might be appealing to you, Maybe try that first, there are companies that will train you, get you your CDL A, and give you a job, Now! you have killed a couple birds with one stone, got some OTR experience, got your CDL A, Now you can apply to any job whether it be in a straight truck or a combination truck working local, Or perhaps the OTR thing will be right up your alley, and you'll want to stay doing that, just never know, Best of luck
