Good stuff. Were you with this company since its beginning? How fast did it grow?
Also what were examples of problem customers and how did you deal with it?

Naw it was started by one guy with one side load trash truck and 200 garbage cans, over 24 years he built it up to 3 side loads 6 front loads 9 roll offs a fork truck (for del of front load tanks) a flatbed with knuckle crane, a bobcat.... i joined in around year 12 to 14, i left to run my own truck, a few years later he cashed out to the big green clean machine (WM) for something north of 20 million...

As for speed of growth.. he added 2 roll off and 1 front load during my 8 years.. we had more than a thousand dumpsters alone.. i know a few other one truck startups, most got to 2-5 trucks in less than 5-8 years, but they all worked with either part time retired guys or cross work with other small companys to build.. the step up from one to two trucks or two to three is hard if you cant keep the truck busy at first...

Did you have any difficult customers for some reason? For example I processed a delivery on credit card that was disputed as double charged (I learned fast not to trust word but have in writing contract). It took months and some evidence (text messages) to finally get back the money. Unfrotaunetly, the dumpster stayed in the property for months. Did you ever drop the waste right there for no payers? Is that even legal?

Legal? Not sure, i did i a dump out 3 times, one a privite customer, box full of houshold trash, was supose to demo. Bossman talked to them. Said pay a extra 200 over the phone or cash to the driver, he will give you a recipt. Cus. Said no. Get the dumpster off my property or i will call in as ilegaly dumped in my yard. Boss man told me to tell the customer their payment will be refunded within 2 hours, open the door and pick up the box. 20 yards of junk. Right there on the front lawn. Had to drive 3 blocks away just to close the door.... he was chasing me on foot.... another was a overloaded concrete box, no big... just spilled out half of it. Took what they paid for. The third was a ilegal load. Customer didnt know you couldnt dispose chem waste with us. Lots of paint and other crap.. once i put a full dumpster cross ways in front of a business owners personal house to force him to pay... that was dicy... not all that legal... but sometimes it works. I would not advise this tho.... we had a few coustomers that were cash and carry. I.e. dont drop without payment or dont pick without...

That must have been a good scene. I can't imagine ever dumping smelly stuff on someones driveway but I sure was tempted too. For that overloaded dumpster, you had a line on the dumpster for max. height of concrete is that right ?

Did you see single axle trucks carry 30 yard dumpsters (22 ft long)? would these stick just with lighter loads (demo and houseclean rather than concrete and dirt)

Yeah, mostly they ran tall boys, 20 or 30 yard that is only 18 feet long, just taller. Just gotta know you max load weight. Most singles have a tag around here. Kept up for fuel when not needed
