I usually do 6/7 days on OTR then come back home for 1.5 or 2 days. Our 1rst day back on we send our employer a message through the Qualcomm telling then our next day home and next day back available.
When I get back at then end of the run, looking forward to my time off, the planner sends me a load assignment for some local job.
I love OTR. Nothing like it. Problem is I'm not big on driving around Montreal the day i get back from having just done 3000 miles.
I have only been with this company 5 months, they are great otherwise, very accommodating, however i find it a bit sneaky to try to get me to drive locally. They have city drivers for that.
Is it wrong to flat out tell then i have 0 interest in city work the day I get back?
We have the option with load assignment to accept/decline, however it doesn't look good to decline a lot.

They’re just trying to keep you making money. If they had OTR available. They’d say: Off you go...have fun.

Makes sense. End of the day I'm a number who can make them profit. I'll have to be specific about what time I'm done driving at ... 8 a.m. day back .

My question is, do they at least pay hourly for the local stuff, or cpm?
Last place I worked it was a flat $25 to deliver in town. Problem is it always took 2-3 hours. Company lost so many drivers over that. You would think they would learn, but never managed to by the time I left.

Im the kind of guy who would go in & tell them I ain't interested in doing that local work. Just like everyone else, I like my home time etc. I don't mean that I "tell" them, but more so to make them aware that I ain't interested. See what they say. See what you can work out.

Keep it real simple. You're not 'declining a lot.' You're just declining the local work.

The plus side is the moment you revert to local, it's 20$/hour, you need to create a timesheet for it.

Normally i would, just relatively new driver, don't want to give them the impression I'm not interested in working. I work hard, push my limits most days OTR, just can't be bothered dealing with Montreal crappy roads/construction . I may use your approach though.

True. I declined last Friday for the 1rst time out of about 150 pre-plan assignments.

You did it right then. Just keep doing it like that and they will get the message. Or talk to them and let them know that you just don't want to do any local work, so don't even bother asking.
