If I get hired with the upcoming company? Yup local or OTR, go with what they need. They want it moved, so be it. They are willing to pay that is what matters

That one small word No when used by experienced drivers is a wonderful tool.

However in the South it's usually prefaced by a very hot unmentionable place where the condemned wail forever.

Huge difference in an emergency and every week.
Also, if it's truly an emergency and not simply poor planning on dispatch then the company will be willing to pay me local rates, not some cpm crap.

@Humblepie gave me advice on this years ago. He said only run local moves if they pay you the OTR scale, minimum of 20 miles round trip. It adds up over 10 years.

TravR1, Daplumber and Humblepie Thank this.

yeah, i had an employer that did that..i was the senior driver at the time. i'd do 3 turns a week from MA to VA..

i'd get back on a thursday night, and on Friday, the boss wanted me to do a load of cigs (mostly the one i brought up from VA, to a warehouse, wait till i got unloaded and go home,,maybe all of about 5 hours..

    I HATED IT...

i wanted a 2.5 days off (i'd be going out again on Sunday nights.....)

the extra money wasn't worth it

Why push your limits..You will burn out early in your career....Do the local if you wanna or just say your wore out...
Do yourself a fav though..Keep notes on stuff like that cause some dispatchers are real dicks..Just dont be a dick to them cause when one helps the other, they will help you at some point..

i wouldn't have minded so much, if i was ASKED if i wanted the extra work/pay..

but to tell me when i get back on a thursday, i HAVE to go out for a local delivery, would tee me off to no end..there were "lower ranking" drivers that could have used the work.

I'm OTR out of Dallas and I usually get stuck with some local crap when I get to Dallas.

It is what it is. I've raised enough of a stink that it doesn't always happen. For awhile it was every time I went to Dallas.

I would get home ok, but I would get local work when I came off of home time. Run a few local deliveries and then try and catch up with the regular OTR planning. :/

My last day available is tomorrow..they have me bringing back a quick Toronto Montreal load to the yard ... I'll be sure re-send my macro telling them I'm available until 10 a.m.
