Everyone likes to blame brokers, but other carrier owners aren’t much better, cutting rates just to keep their trucks busy

That's the way this works, when it gets bad the big companies are gonna come in cut rates take all the spot market freight and haul all the freight that they can until it gets better.
Their in a better position to survive.

You're right, it's not the brokers.
It's the drivers and/companies that keep screaming I'LL DO IT CHEAPER!

$7500 texas to wa and 6500 back for years and you dont have any reserves to weather one/two years of down market?

Or it just doesn't makes sense to haul flatbed loads for $1.60-$1.70 a mile now, especially through mountains.

So running flatbed from Texas to the PNW was the only option for this guy? The 5th wheels on his trucks didn’t work on any other type of trailer? If he was making what he claimed then 300 rounds like he claimed would’ve been over $4mil gross. Seems like his company could’ve weathered a storm after a stretch of good years. I think his 45% OOS rate might have hampered his ability to work with some brokers on the spot market though.

It's the free market at work, simple as that.
