In the 1900s to 1950s? there was a chemical process that was the most common method to extract caffeine from coffee beans. Since the 1970s I think something like 98% of decaf coffee producers uses what is called the Swiss Method or the Water Method or the sugarcane process with no dangerous chemicals of any sort. Nothing but water or Carbon Dioxide and water, or a naturally ocurring chemical common to most fruits is used to make coffee decaf. I feel like this has been mentioned before a few times. The world is not frozen in amber and unchanging. Imagine a coffee producer injecting dangerous chemicals into a drink for consumers and NOT ONE LAWYER SUING THEM INTO OBLIVION. Not likely anymore. What was true before the 1950s is no longer true now. Just as we now have color TV, wireless phones, and computers. Just because something was true it doesn't mean it continues to be true for the rest of time. All decaf is now using just water, or the sugarcane process, or the carbon dioxide process. None of the decaf coffee is being made with the 1905 process using benzene and nobody is driving a Model T Ford just because that is how we used to drive.

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as Mormons, are prohibited from drinking coffee as part of their health code called the Word of Wisdom. This code, revealed in 1833, advises against the consumption of "hot drinks," which is interpreted to mean coffee and tea, in order to promote physical and spiritual well-being.cuzzin it Thanks this. -
