Thanks everyone. I started studying for the doubles/triples and the tanker endorsements last night and did some practice tests. I did well so I will go to DMV on Tuesday for those endorsements. The hazmat seems to be a little harder not to mention expensive so I think that will take a little more work.

if there is anyone from around Long Island that is about to take their road test and wants to know what they are in for let me know.

Congratulations tony, Im going to be taking the CDL career training course at Commercial Driver Training in west babylon starting in june, Glad to hear its a good program. I am also unemployed and was told by a woman at CDT that suffolk county dept of labor would pay for the course, any truth to this ? also did you take the career course or pay for individual lessons, I thought they did job placement assistance. Any information is much appreciated. Thanks

No failing does not happen to the best of us, Another way to look at that curb it could be your kid on a bike, or your wife in the car. You have a good attitude about the retest. They really charge you 300.00 to retest that sucks.

By the way having to retest is not failing, giving up and quitting is failing.

You do not need to worry about job placement assistance, there are plenty of sharks crusing the CDL schools that will hire you. Concentrate on which shark will do you the most good.

    Crfingnutz,

CDT seems to be a well respected school. The equipment is well maintained and they pretty much have any vehicle you might want to drive. Everyone that works there is friendly. I found that I developed a better rapport with a specific instructor so I tried to request him whenever I could. I paid for the cdl permit course as well as the individual private lessons. I had wanted to take one of the career courses but the cost was prohibitive. Since I am unemployed I had tried to get the state to pay for the career course but was put on the waiting list for funding and they will not tell you how long it will be before your number is called. They will do placement assistance but only for the students who complete their career courses.

Anything else just let me know.

    Powder Joints,

You are absolutly right about the curb and the related associations.
My retest was $250 to use the schools truck and $40 dmv fee.

If there is any interest to this continuing saga, I took the tests for doubles/triples and tankers today and passed.

Conway Freight had an advertisement for part-time trainee, put in a app.
