Lets leave the BACK IN THE DAY to the CRUSTY OLD DRIVERS THREAD.:) , I started out with heres the keys , hand written instructions and $20 EMERG money.

We are talking TODAY with the traffic and conditions facing todays driver.

His route takes him through major cities , talking 6 to 10 lanes each direction ( we did not start out like that , not built yet ) , would you have wanted to start out that way.

I tuaght myself to drive in a reo and a 58 jimmy didn,t even have a lic back then, just over 25 years with a lic now and not one ticket or accident to date in a truck, and one ticket for 10 over in my 05 chevy in 05. No hand holding for me. Drive safe.

Ok no hand holding BACK then , the QUESTION is would you jump into an 18 WHEELER today and START out after 1 week with a so called trainer and run to NEW YORK CITY.

not being difficult, but yeah i would...but would not recommend it today for most.......more traffic, more lanes, construction...etc...lot more to deal with today than there used to be...in some aspects anyway...

It's not as bad as running mountain passes with a "trainer" in the sleeper with a $300 a week team codriver right out of school .
Some newbies are better off with no trainer at all than with some of the "trainers" BFI's have . How many newbies with real potential left the industry because they got stuck with the wrong trainer ?

    Everyone has to start somewhere.

It sounds better than everyone saying you need 5 years experience before we will hire you. How are you supposed to get experience if no one will hire you?
