Even right at the wreck scene, he could have easily eaten guardrail and gone onto the flat wide area of the shoulder.

I think that's what pisses me off the most about this whole hullabaloo. He had tons of options and chose the one guaranteed to kill someone because it presented him the least risk.

 

It really seems like just a lack of training in emergency situations. We can all say we'd do better, but there's never any real chance to test until it's too late. We can aim for this or that but we all have a self preservation instinct. Which we use to keep from killing ourselves, even at the cost of others.
