I'd go back to hauling heavy equipment if I could find something even close to what the LTL biz pays.

You were miss informed. That .52 cpm is also a 7% pay cut. They top out close or over .60cpm. That's pretty close to the top LTL's.

    blairandgretchen Thanks this.

ABF is NOT Top Totem pole pay for LTL. But it is the 1% LTL including benefits etc. plus some great perks.

    Varies for each location.

    OT after 8
    Good equipment
Morale is good. ( not great ) new contract past year was retarded.
Turnover rate is very very very low. ( retirement job )
Fuel delivery to the terminal ( contractor fuels the tractors )
Working the dock is stupid easy.
Seniority helps out the fresh on the totem noobs.

HR is a pain in the butt first few months :biggrin_25523:

    Overall great company.

If I remember correctly, after 5 years you're locked in for a pension and can start the pension at a reduced amount as early as age 55. The longer you work there and the older you are when you retire, the pension is increased. Can also leave a portion of your pension to your spouse if you predecease your spouse.

Not sure how to say this nicely driver. It was a hint to stay off the roads. wasn't worth your life to haul cheap freight or any frieght.

    blairandgretchen Thanks this.

Unsure of the ( years ) when I was hired on. Out of 24 drivers. 6 was retiring in the following months and 2 just retired. This was at a 30 door terminal.
Each one of them had a little over 20 years invested. You might be correct Chinatown.

    blairandgretchen and Chinatown Thank this.

Dude1969: I was told they may consider drivers with no experience if you have a clean record, clean urine, and all your endorsements.you May be required to go through their training program though.

I'm not sure if this requires a new thread, but what does working on the dock involve? From what I've read the new drivers seem to start on the docks although I'm applying for line haul.

Secondly, and I don't know where to post this question and I'd like a cut and dry answer : What is the difference between a Union job and non-union? I don't know scratch about unions. I don't want to start an argument though and im not asking which is better. Just, factually, what are the main differences between the two?

    Lastly, what does vested mean?

thank you all again for the opinions it really helps :biggrin_25514::yes2557::biggrin_25514:

Vested : When your pension benefits are "vested" you are unconditionally entitled to receive the pension benefits you have earned (or accrued) under your pension plan.
