If it's just flat, try to reinflate it to get going again long enough to get to a truck stop. I have one of those coil looking hoses that can reach from my red airline to any tire on the trailer. In fact I own it because I got a flat, and reinflated it myself. Got up in the AM, pretripped and the #### thing was hard as a rock. I don't know what caused that but whatever. I put a new valve stem in it, maybe that's all it was.
But if it's shredded, that's a different story. I usually just keep going to the closest truck stop that has a tire center that we use. I have duals so I can do that. But YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THIS: IT IS ILLEGAL TO DRIVE ON A FLAT. That is a DOT violation, period. You CAN be pulled over and cited for it. Doesn't matter where you're going or what you're doing.
So all of those people attacking his 30 years of experience because he doesn't want to drive in DOT violation, perhaps its YOU who needs to look in the mirror to see who is the problem.Lav-25, Gearjammin' Penguin, The one california kid and 1 other person Thank this. -

Flat tire, I air it up, maybe plug it, fix when convenient. Blowout, hazards on to safe location, know way I’m sitting on side of road with idiots out here. Dispatch will get message after I’ve got road service set up.

It's worth noting a DOT officer can put you out of service and file against the carrier even if you're not violating CFR 393.75.. You cause property damage RIP your CDL; probably for life given the current industry downsizing... I'm pretty sure at this point even Western Express isn't even hiring people who will mess with their CSA and insurance..
But the best thing about big time outlaw trucking in a plastic truck is you can always tell the industry F-you I'm going to Google or NASA to pay the bills.. Real man gonna solve all the AI problems, and maybe dabble in cyber-security XDLast edited: Aug 18, 2024

If you have a really bad day they will even throw you in jail for that flat tire. Might even take you out back and shoot you!
Of course most likely you would just drive the half an hour to the tire shop and go on about your day.Tb0n3, OlegMel and The one california kid Thank this. -
Just tell the next industry you were a truck driver you'll be on the payroll in no time..
What's the worse that could happen? -
Have drove on flats many times sometimes 100 mile or so nothing to cry about
OldeSkool Thanks this. -
Next time tell them to send that demand in a text message.

I’ve ran on flats several times without a problem. However if the other tires are worn out or recaps i wouldn’t. I saw a guy pulling an excavator blow a trailer tire that must have been a recap, before he made it to the shoulder the one beside it went and he was dragging the rims.
Lav-25 Thanks this.
